The 4th stage of the Field Masters Tour tournament, a hunter round, was shot on the 3rd October at Fonmon, we chose the south end of the course for the shoot due to the forecasted wet weather.
The heavy rain came in overnight but had dwindled down to almost nothing by 8am – the river in Fonmon was at its highest for a long time but was passable with care so the shoot went ahead, the course was muddy and caution was required on some of the steeper slopes.
The shoot got off to a cloudy and dark start making the first couple of targets more of a challenge than normal but as the day went on the sky lightened and the sun even managed to shine for a while. By the time we got the end of the day everyone had seen some blue sky !
This was a first outing for one of our archers in a new style and Nathan did extremely well on the course shooting AMFSR with a clicker for the first time, however due to unforeseen circumstances he had to withdraw prior to finishing the shoot, a great shame but the right call for him and we look forward to seeing him on his next shoot.
From a club point the archer of the day was Elise with a storming shoot in difficult conditions putting in a cracking 180 and a Welsh Record, this is a young lady who has only been shooting longbow for a few months in the competition circuit and with her Mum, Sally, shows great promise for the future of WFAA ladies longbow in Wales. It is definitely a family thing when you look at Mike’s scores as well: he just keeps putting in those Welsh records.
Overall everyone enjoyed the shoot, despite the overcast and grey start a few high scores were put in and a few PBs, better still a couple of Welsh records were shot.
The catering was great and very welcome on the breaks, all archers expressed their thanks to Verity and Eleanor, a sentiment echoed by the LMA committee. The committee would also like to thank Colin who formally hosted the shoot and did the admin making sure the groups were out on time and the scores were recorded and the trophies presented. The committee also expresses its gratitude to Paul and Peter for giving their time during the preceding week to ensure the course was ready to shoot by strimming and clearing the shoot lines.
