The Welsh & Open got off to a good start today, Saturday 19th. Llantwit Major Archers were out in force for the top Welsh National event. The weather was wet and windy but that did not deter a good number of archers from showing up from as far afield as Scotland. Dynefwr Archery Club were out at Fonmon for their first WFAA shoot, we offer a hearty welcome from Llantwit Major Archers.
The day progressed well with all enjoying the shoot and then disaster struck in the shape of a tree crashing down and taking out the high power electric lines that cross the course. These cables cross the couse at the point that was target 17, fortuitously the WFAA had recently moved Target 17 15yds to the left under the pine trees, Bob Lloyd who was shooting target 17 at the time was very happy about that move !
It was deemed unsafe to continue to shoot and the organisers are hoping we can resume tomorrow.
The 2nd day of the Welsh went ahead with reasonable weather. Llantwit Major Archers were out in force and a good number of trophies came our way.
The competition was close in a number of styles, see here for the full results
I have been asked by the WFAA to thank Llantwit Major Archers for all their work to make the Welsh and Open a sucess this year and especially to thank Matt Howard and Steve Lloyd for their excellent services as Marshals for the day and Colin Ketley for his pre shoot work on getting the Admin area ready for all of us.
