5th September - FMT round 3 shot at Brecon

Round 3 of the WFAA Field Masters Shoot went ahead at Brecon after a last minute move from Canada Lakes. LM Archers were out in force with 15 of us representing Llantwit Major Archers in a total field of 27

As this round has not often been shot previously there were a few Welsh records up for grabs as well as the FMT trophies and our achers did not disappoint in this. Our archers put in 10 Welsh Records on the day. Our sincere congratulations to all of them but especially to Elise on her first competition shoot, not only winning her style but a Welsh Record as well.

There were a few that did not score as well as they would have liked but thats how it goes sometimes.

The weather was not as good as the weatherman promised but the rain held off for most of the time and it was not cold or windy. The conditions did create a bit of ground mist that made a few of the long targets interesting to spot, but not so much as you could not see to shoot - just a bit hard to see where you had shot !

The Adult Male Barebow was a tight competition with Colin and Paul ending up with the same score - in that case the most X 's wins, but as they had both shot the same number of X's as well a Tie was announced - and in this case a Joint Welsh Record as well.

LMA would like to thank Gill and John at Brecon for a warm welcome and great catering as usual, and the WFAA for organising the event.

27th June - Field Classification Round South end

The class shoot went ahead as planned. The shoot was well attended by Llantwit Archers shooting a broad range of styles taking advantage of the fact that this was the last opportunity to shoot the course that will be used for the UK and I of I competition. We were happy to see Neil Bowdler but unfortunately he had to depart early and was not able to complete the shoot, but not before he had a look at the new North end and was impressed by it.

The course was appreciated by all who shot it, the day was a great sucess and while some scores were slightly off form a number of archers put in excellent scores.

The highlights were Yoke Lunn shooting Ladies Bare Bow smashing her PB by a long way, Paul Watson shooting a high score and putting over 100 points on the Fonmon record, Mike Mattingley putting in his first A class score and smashing the Welsh Record for Gents Historic Bow, A very warm welcome to Anna Ritchie on her inaugural shoot at Fonmon as a Cub Freestyle Unlimited putting in an excellent score for her first class round and first shoot at Fonmon and scoring a Welsh record , and, not least of all for Nigel Kent putting in a 20 on the 80yd shot as Gents Bowhunter Unlimited,

In all it was a great day - the weather was good and the shoot was enjoyed by everyone, scores below ( note, WR = Welsh Record, dont forget to claim them, FR = Fonmon Record) -

14th March - Fonmon Challenge

The First Fonmon Challenge on our new 28 target course went ahead in glorious sunshine. The shoot was well attended by archers from several clubs shooting a broad range of styles taking advantage of the fact that this was the only opportunity to shoot the full course that will be used for the UK and I of I competition later in the year.

Llantwit Major Archers would like to offer our grateful thanks to Claire and family for doing the catering for the day allowing all our registered archers to shoot.

The course was appreciated by all who shot it, the day was a great sucess and while some scores were slightly off form a number of archers put in excellent scores on a new course that both challenged and rewarded everyone on the day.

The Fonmon Challenge is an Expert round and it lived up to its name. Llantwit Major Archers wish to thank all who came to take part and also our special thanks to Sir Brooke Boothby for kindly agreeing to present the awards.

21st February - Red Kite Shoot

A new 14 target course was set up for this year in West Wales near Llandeilo opposite Aberglasney House. The inaugural shoot was held on the 21st February and Llantwit Major Archers were out in good number. The following made the trip –

Colin Ketley, Peter Hatherley, Mark Lunn, Yoke Lunn, Mike Mattingley, Connor Harrison, Molly Harrison, Gethyn Friend, Chris Gray and Dave Gray and not forgetting Nigel Kent - however I did - my apologies Nigel !

The day was a bit windy and cold but dry – not enough to dampen anyone’s enthusiasm for the shoot. The course was newly laid and paths between butts were yet to be trodden in and clear, but the course shows promise and a good shoot was had by most that attended even if the scores were nothing to write home about. Sadly, due to the challenging terrain and failing light, some archers were unable to finish the shoot. At the end of the day everyone left wanting to come back and do better!

One high point of the day was the appearance of a Red Kite calling above the course just in case anyone was not sure why the course had the name.

Cyril has plans to expand the course to 28 targets and put a permanent club house on site. The welcome was warm and the catering was welcome and met everyone’s needs, Llantwit Major Archers would like to thank Cyril John and family for the day and we will be back!

28th February Fonmon Mkd Animal Class shoot

The weatherman made dire threats of storms with 40mph winds but the shoot went ahead and lo the weatherman was wrong!

The shoot was attended by thirteen of our archers and all they had to contend with was a cold day with a few showers and a stiff breeze, oh and the usual Fonmon course challenges such as large quantities of mud, nothing new there then.

Everyone was very grateful to the support crew for the catering, it has become a very welcome feature of most of our shoots and from all the archers that shoot at Fonmon we say a heartfelt - Thank You !

The day went well for all and some good scores were put in. A very warm welcome back to Rod Umney, only his second shoot back at Fonmon in a class shoot for quite a while and a Welsh Record in the bag!

A warm welcome goes to Leah for her first shoot at Fonmon, Leah was shooting cub pegs to get used to the course and competition and put in a very respectable score showing good promise for when she gets up to the junior pegs.

Another warm welcome goes to Jack, shooting cub pegs on his first outing at Fonmon in a competition, giving him the opportunity to show a relaxed style and a superb score showing a lot of promise for the future.

Molly was also shooting, this being her second competition but first shoot at Fonmon. She put in a good score from cub pegs, getting into the swing of competition shooting and will soon be shooting records if she carries on as she is.

The other usual suspects were in attendance and put in respectable scores – some were shooting cub pegs to sort out equipment issues ready for the next tournament – some were shooting full pegs and in the main being satisfied with the scores they put in.

The 2nd welsh record of the day went to Chris, no real surprise to most as he continues to show the excellent form we have all come to expect.

All the score are listed below in no particular order with notes if they are a Welsh record and or a LMA Fonmon course record.
